This is a Little Cub that was abandoned in a parking lot. Officially, it is a limited edition (made in 1997) of the Little Cub base manufacturer’s custom specification called the Cabra. We immediately pulled the bike into the garage and started to assess its current condition. It was in good condition for a bike that had been neglected. The mileage was about 15,000 km. I checked the engine oil with the level gauge in the filler, and it was dirty, but the oil level was up to the upper limit. We connected the battery for maintenance and tried to operate the various switches. The switch housing was disassembled and air blown. So I disassembled the switch housing and blew the air, and applied a small amount of silicon grease (good for improving the sliding property between plastic and metal parts) to the switch operation part. I applied the grease on the tip of a toothpick to the deep part.

Throttle that never came back.

When you twist the throttle, if the throttle does not work well or does not return well, it does not feel good. There are many reasons for poor throttle action, but on this little cabra, the throttle pipe and handlebar were not working well and had a sticky feeling. I disconnected the wires from the throttle housing and inserted the single throttle pipe into the handlebar end to see if it worked smoothly. Does it rotate? I checked it. I sprayed some parts cleaner on the inside of the throttle pipe and the handle pipe and wiped off the dirt with a rag. After that, the throttle started to turn smoothly.

In case of malfunction, cleanup is required before lubrication.

Since the throttle pipe was now working well, the throttle wires were left in place without being removed, the inside of the throttle housing was cleaned and then the inside of the housing was lightly sprayed with oil spray. In addition, grease was applied to the throttle pipe wire trapping area and the surrounding parts were restored. After the assembly was completed, when the throttle was twisted and the hand was released, the throttle returned smoothly with a “snap”. The throttle operation is based on obedient response.

Every bike has a mess inside it with the headlight removed. What was the purpose of removing the headlight this time? Did you do any electrical customization in the past? Or not? It is to confirm whether it has been done in the past. If it has been modified to take out the power supply, check the area around it and make sure that there is no short circuit. When there is a dust stain, it is good to wipe it off with an air blow and a dry rag. Surprisingly, there are many cobwebs and so on. Let’s remove them by air blow. The chrome plating on the headlight rim was rusty, so I polished it off with a fine bonster.

The chrome plated muffler had more point rust than the headlight rim. Even though it was fine, scrubbing with a metal trowel bonster would have caused small scratch scratches on the chrome surface, so I first sprayed a good amount of rust prevention spray (WD40 or CRC556 is fine) and waited a while. After the oil had soaked into the rust, I polished it with a fine bonster. When used in conjunction with the rust inhibiting oil, the rust is smoother and easier to remove. It is better to protect the area around the muffler with cardboard so that you can proceed with the work without worrying about oil spray and dirt splattering.

In such a case, do not spray oil from the beginning, but spray parts cleaner using a cable injector to clean the inside of the cable while softly breaking down the oil and grease. Fortunately, the Little Cabra was left under the roof, so it didn’t seem to be damaged much, but it was covered with dust. Rainwater and tap water are completely different, so if the dust is so bad, run the bike through a water hose (don’t pour water directly on the electric parts or meter) and wipe off the body parts with a wet rag. If the dirt does not come off well, get a narrow brush with long bristles, fill a bucket or container with water mixed with neutral detergent (lukewarm water is best) and scrub with the brush. Then, scrub the car with the brush and run it under the tap water while checking the dirt removal. In any case, after washing the car, let’s blow air to each part well. A small air compressor and an air gun with a long nozzle are useful to have when washing a car.

As for the engine, there are some procedures such as removing the spark plug, checking the burned condition, spraying oil through the plug hole, and slowly stepping on the kick arm to activate it. Next, let’s try to start the engine.
